One suitcase

My aunt, my father's sister, took in Julia and her two daughters, Ana and Sofia, from Czerkasy. They arrived with one small suitcase between them. Friends of hers found the girls clothes and shoes that week.

“Standing in love with Ukraine 🇺🇦. From Monday we will have Julia with her two daughters, Ana and Sofia, stay with us from the Ukrainian city of Czerkasy. They escaped the war. They came with only one small suitcase. They are a lovely family, scared, full of fear and uncertainty. Our friends supplied the girls some clothes and shoes they needed. Difficult times ahead of them, but we give them what we give to our grandchildren, love and kindness. “The kids are going to school, they even have a Ukrainian class. Younger children attend a Polish kindergarten. They have all learned the language very quickly. The moms also attend Polish lessons and try to live a normal life, but still, the situation is so hard on them. A son and his parents

A young man crossed with his elderly mother and father, and with their pets. They would not leave without their animals. A Polish family took all of them in, cats and dogs included, and we covered what that cost the household.

The pass-through house

We rented a house and put thirty beds in it. Families on the road for days or weeks stayed three or four nights to shower, do laundry, eat and sleep before moving on. Most of the people who came through were women and children. The donations paid the rent, the fees and the upkeep.

Two families, one room

One household took in a mother and her daughter, and a mother and her son. All four shared a single room. Both children were waiting on places at the local school. We covered the household's costs.

Three generations

A family took in a mother, her son and their grandmother, who is disabled, from Czerwonogród. The donations covered several of their expenses, and later the medical supplies a boy in a wheelchair needed.

Our oldest host

An 81-year-old family friend took in a mother and her two children, plus the family dog. They had traveled through Moldova and then Romania to reach Poland. The father, a doctor, stayed behind. She could not cover three more people on her own, so the donations did.

Clothes and shoes

Children and teenagers were arriving with a backpack, or with nothing. We worked with a local school to get clothes and shoes to them, and volunteers measured each child so the shoes fit.

Winter

Jackets, sweaters and bedding for a group of twenty-three people in October 2022. Food, flour, sugar and cooking goods again in September 2023, eighteen months after the first transfer.
